jsmoriss: Mike and I upgraded the stock headlights to e-code Cibies yesterday, along with converting the side marker lights (on the fenders) to turn signals. We also wired the "city lights"; a second bulb in the reflector that turns on with the marker lights. We shrink-wrapped all soldered wires and used dielectric grease on the connectors. It's also useful to have an assortment of wire wrap sizes at hand for that 'factory look'. :-) I'll try and hit all the important points of the install...

- After removing the grill and stock headlights, you'll notice the stock pigtail is quite short, especially on the passenger's side. You can cut away some of the tape around the wire wrap to gain a little length. You'll probably want to add some length to each wire as well to make maintenance of the light and bulb a little easier. Notice the low and high beam wires are the same color, so using a circuit tester, identify each circuit, and if you're extending the wires, choose distinct colors. :-)

- The H4 socket for the headlight are marked 56a, 56b, and 31. 56a is the high beam, 56b is the low beam, and 31 is the ground wire.

- We cut the ground wire from the side (fender) marker and connected the city light ground wire to the ground wire in it's socket. That way, when the socket is connected, it gives the city light a ground. Don't forget NOT to cut the ground wire flush to the socket - leave some wire to make this connection. :-) Leave the ground wire to the side (fender) marker loose for now - we'll connect it somewhere else later.

- The turn signal plug is wired in the socket as: ground, minor (marker), major (turn/flash).

- We cut the minor wire and spliced-in the positive wire for the "city light" bulb. This will feed the "city light" when the marker lights are on.

- Extend the side (fender) marker ground wire and splice it into the major wire of the turn/flash bulb.

There you go...
