Nudibranchs at Bonaire Town Pier

Posted by on August 17, 2008 at 09:40 AM UTC in categories Scuba Diving

Last trip we were determine to find our first nudibranchs. Accompanied by our friend/divemaster Linda, we went on hunting for nudibranchs at Bonaire town pier. We did 2 very long dive each @ 2 hour long and saw amazing things - Seahorses sleeping, octopus, batfish, orange ball coralimorph anemone, sponge crabs ...... and many nudibranchs. The most common was the long horn nubibranch (we saw dozen of those); we saw 4 of the gold-line sea goddess; discovered a blue-ring sea hare (who looked very much like a ball of snot).

We need a little help identifying the Doris that we found at town pier though. The only Doris documented in the Reef Creature P . Humann and Ned Deloach that looks a bit like this one could be the brown doris. We believe that the doris we found at town pier looks more like a NODULOSE HOPLODORIS (from the book of Neville Coleman 1001 nudibranchs p.57) a doris found in the coral sea. We would love to get confirmation on our find by nudi experts. If you can positively identify this nudibranch please send us an email.

Our 10th trip to Bonaire

Posted by on April 27, 2007 at 03:44 PM UTC in categories Scuba Diving

This trip to bonaire will be our 10th one since fall 2001. We fell in love with this island back in 2001. We made friends over the years. The diving is pristine. We also visit Bonaire to dine at the Mona Lisa and Capriccios restaurant - 2 best restaurants on the Island. We will be trying out our new DS200 Ikelite flashes on this trip :*) To my team in Montreal and Kanata, I lift my glass to our new center and our success !! You may view some of my pictures of the 2006 vacation on the following link.

Short Tail Eel at Tori's Reef

Posted by on October 03, 2006 at 04:48 PM UTC in categories Scuba Diving

On November 1, 2005 @ 1h30pm, we went searching for Eels at Tori Reef. Tom and Joyce Schulke had dove the site the previous day and had spotted what looked like a fineless Eel - Very rare and not reported on Bonaire before. During our 90 minutes dive that afternoon, we saw 6 Eels in the sand and JS took pictures with his macro len. When we looked at them the same night, Joyce identified them as Short Tail Eels again unreported Eel for Bonaire. In the shallows of Tori's reef and particulary in the afternoon it is definitely the place to be and watch the Eels in the sand. Joyce and Tom are still convinced that they may have seen another type of eel. Good hunting. Tips for photographers: With these Eels you basically have one shot up close. You should take pictures gradually until you get close to the subject. Once the subject is gone it won't resurface at the same spot. Very shy subject. Tori Reef shallows is an amazing place to find orange spotted goby with their schrimp - Dash goby - conch - slippery dick dancing and much much more.

Our Bonaire Pictures !

Photography/2004/20040501 - Bonaire/20040516-152816.jpg does not exist.
Finally some pictures ... I'm sure many of you guys have been anxious to see our pictures. For now only my pictures are online. JS will get to it this week. The best underwater ones will go in MVPIX. I must say that I really like my wide angle shots of JS and the Salt Pier and also my many coral compositions. I realized that my camera is best at taking wide angle than macro ... So I went wild taking coral shots. I have used a Sea & Sea 16mm lense for most shots. I will add comments from time to time to the pictures. Please feel free to write a comment with the function of the album. Hope you enjoy them :*)
