Sailfin Blennies at Fish Hut South

Posted by on June 01, 2006 at 01:52 AM UTC in categories Photography

We made 2 dives of 90 minutes each looking at a stash of Sailfin Blennies. In 15 feet of waters in a patch of rubbles there must have been more than 40 of them. The male were very friendly and dancing for us (FYI - Only the male dance. Males are darker). I used my 100 mm canon lense to shoot the pictures. You must use a 1/160th and up to be able to clearly capture these little buggers. We used the AI focus also (got a cramp from holding the trigger). We have not begin to work on our Bonaire pictures from may yet but wanted to put a picture of the Sailfin for Todd & Lynn Fulks (We met Lynn at the Carib - She was completing her Divemaster course). Todd - Hope you have found the blennies yourself and have taken some good shots. If not hope this will inspire to find this very special stash :*)

On vacation at Bonaire this past may, Eric and I launched the next generation of Fido services - Scuba Fido. JS took our picture underwater at Margate Bay. Eric did all the picture creative and photoshop work including the superb Scuba Fido logo. JS and I provided the salt pier and trunk fish pictures.

You can view the artwork in our private photo album. Of course, you'll need a username and password to access the site...

Butterflies at the Botanical Gardens!

Photography/2004/20040313 - Butterflies at the Botanical Gardens/20040313-120045.jpg does not exist.
Eric, Annie, Melanie, and I went to the Botanical Gardens last Saturday for their annual "Butterflies Go Free" event. The greenhouse looked much better than last year -- they did some renovations, used a good plant / flower layout, and placed the ceiling nets a little lower. Although we took fewer pictures than last year, the ratio of good / bad photos was much better. We haven't selected any pictures for MVPix yet, so if you think some are good enough, please let us know (comment this news item, or the photo itself).
