We planned a 4 day and 3 nights canoe trip. Our route has taken us on circuit #10 - Jean-Pere. A 3h50 minute drive from Montreal took us to the Domaine. We setup and lunch and we were ready to leave the Domaine at 2pm. We were lucky to have to wind at all for our first ride. It was 26c. We missed the same entry that lead to our first camping site and ended up at another site #10-83 at 4h10pm. Pete was very excited and JS had to trow him over board to scare him so he would be calmer into the canoe. We saw 3 otters on our way over. It took 1h30 to setup kitchen and tent. The dinner that night a southern coucous was so so. JS tried to make a fire with wet wood and we did not have great success. We went to sleep at 8pm. The night was very hot. we had to sleep out of our sleeping bags onto our thermarest. I was very happy that we had taken Cliff advise and that I had made covers for the mattress. It rain that night. We have to mention that until the last morning, we may have seen 20 mosquitoes total. Also, I want to mention that we saw each day and early evening - an helicopter and hydro planes go by.
On September 6th, we woke upat 7am to a gorgeous day. It was very cold around 10c. We left the camp at 11am. I must mention that truffle eggs with spam is not very good. I also must mention that I had forgot all the bread we had plan for the trip. The wind on the water was at least 15km/h. We arrived at our second site 10-22. I have tried to fish and on my first cast lost a lucky strike. The first course of our dinner was a ceasar salad. It was delicious. Pete played a lot into the water. The night was colder. I wore a pyjama.
Now September 7th, we woke up at 7h45. We saw 2 visons in the morning. We also must mention that there were lots of sound during that night primarily birds and 2 lonnie humping nearby. There was smog onto the lake it was georgous. We also found out that the water filter ceramics needs to be washed frequently to allow maximum flow. we left at 10h50. We did 1h45 canoe. It went well. Winds were 5km/h and Pete was behaving nicely. We arrived at our third camping spot - the most beautiful one 10-9. It was full of Poison Ivy. All through the trip we used lingette no rinse to wash and they worked well. We also used some specials wipes for private area. As for the hair we tried the no rinse liquid shampoo. It felt good but the next day the result of cleaniness were so so. There was loads of wind into this location. Pete was spooked by the waves. Pete digged himself a den into the dirth to make himself warm and hide from the wind. The night was fresh but no cold. We slept very good. Pete slept butt to butt with JS. He was very good into the tent for the 3 nights.
We saw another canoe and 1 kayak over the 3 days with distant fishing boats. We saw lots of birds. There was wild blueberries and red berries around. The forest at the Park is very dense. Lots of Pin trees and Birtch. We have learned that wind onto a big lake makes paddling difficult. It is difficult to make a fire with wet wood. September is a good month for the bugs (It must be hell in june). We also leaned that bought desydrated food is so so (we will desydrate our own food next time). Canoe camping with a working dog such as our little Pete is hard work.
Overrall, we are very well equiped. All the good equipement makes the experience so much memorable. We had a very good time !
